To celebrate the completion of the World Economic Forum, the NPC-ers have taken the biggest step towards a CBDC.
For new readers… four months ago, the NPC NFT sold out in record time, the fastest and most successful Vyper NFT to date.
NFTs being what they are, users who missed the mint had to buy secondhand NPCs. Going off-brand they felt left out, particularly regretting not getting any of the $THING token issued to minters as a demonstration of Vyper’s gas efficiency.
The NPC brain trust did a little independent thought (!!!), putting together a heretofore unique NFT staking solution: a pseudorandom per-NFT multiplier, which changes deterministically every time the community updates the Current Thing.
The most cunning yield farmers can use these mechanics to plot out ahead of time which common NFTs are undervalued due to their upcoming yield potential, allowing them to hoard tokens on the cheap. The tokens are valueless, so such behavior is unlikely, but degens gonna degen.
We wrote up the gory technical details as a companion post on the Github and hope technical readers take a look and share thoughts! We of course open sourced the code, and we hope other NFT projects find it compelling enough to swipe it and build atop it. Our hope is to show off how easy (and gas efficient) it is to build complex yet comprehensible apps using Vyper.
Or you can just YOLO your way in at the beautiful website, built by the great @chungus and hosted at https://npcnft.io/.
Joining us to discuss what this all means for the broader perspective, is our good friend Klauz!

Ser, congratulations on a successful conference!
KLAUZ
Zis is premature. Ve kannot yet ascertain vhether ze zympozium haz been un zucceß.
CMC
Could you tell us a bit more about the origins of the World Economic Forum?
KLAUZ
Ja. You zee, it has not alvayz been zuch a big zpectacle. Wenn I founded ze Forum in 1269, ve had a big problem. Did you know many people find ze zubject of ze Ekonomie to be borink?
CMC
People find economics boring? I certainly hope not! Our newsletter is like 80% about economics!
KLAUZ
Nein, iz true. Nobody vanted to attend unser converenze because ze zpeakers are meistlich ze TED Talk zecond-ztringers. Ze kidz thought I vas just some veird 984 year old. I uh, mean… of course, 84 year old. Ha. That vas one of your earth jokes.
CMC
What did you do?
KLAUZ
Ve needed a vay to make ze Vorld Ekonomie Vorum sexy.
CMC
Is this where you came up with the idea of inviting Christine Lagarde?
KLAUZ
In a manner of zpeaking. Ve haben gechosen to lean into ze vorld domination angle. Othervise, we vould just be a few borink zpreadzheetz. When ve threatened to take over ze vorld, people paid attention.
CMC
You’re not worried about blowback?
KLAUZ
Of course not.
You see, ze left-ving NPCs are alvays eager to zurrender and pledge loyalty to anyvone who threatens vorld domination, as long as you recite zheir zhibboleths. Zhey form ze zcrawny backbone of our army.
Und ze panicky right-ving NPCs are alvays zo terrified. Zey qvickly run to ze internet and make ze memez for us, vich our zpeciez cannot comprehend. Zhey provide us the publicity ve need to juice ticket zalez.
CMC
Ah, it makes sense. So you’re saying the WEF is just a grift against NPCs of all flavors? Brilliant! But, to what end?
KLAUZ
For years ve haff been zearching for ze ultimate energy zource, because it is very cold on our planet… I mean in our Earth country. But ve can find no energy zource more powerful zenn ze outrage directed at news by ze news readers.
Zimply by shortening the newz zyclez ve could harneß perpetual motion. All ve need to do iz keep ze NPCs in a constant outrage about ze Current Zhing and ve have unlimited, zuzstainable energy. Mu ha ha.
