4pool Launches on Mainnet, Should you Jump Early?

A pair of new gauge votes makes very clear that both 4pool and 2pool are deployed!

alfa leak? looks like 4pool on mainnet is imminent. @CurveFinance just posted (1h ago) governance proposal to add a gauge. judging from $UST and $FXS bribes this round on FTM, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Arbitrum, it should be a .... (don't say it, don't say it) ... big week.

In fact, some rudimentary Etherscan analysis shows the pool’s been sitting idle for 11 days already. If you were asking “When 4pool?” the answer was “It already happened and nobody cared.”

Technicalities though. The launch is just one step in the lifecycle:

• Pool launched

• Pool seeded with liquidity

• Gauge launched

• Gauge approved by governance (votes open for 7 days)

• Gauges start receiving emissions through gauge votes (next voting round)

So we’re entering the fourth stage here. Presuming 4pool passes governance, we still have a bit of time until emissions ramp up.

As we’ve waited, there’s still been plenty of back and forth. Yesterday we saw Maker announce a based pool in response. So is there still hype for 4pool?

4pool has already built some solid inroads within DeFi. Aave has publicly discussed plans for onboarding FRAX and possibly UST, along with potential 4pool integrations.

1) the 4Pool can become an a4pool holding aTokens and thus increasing Yield for @CurveFinance users adding aave yield on top of curve yield 2) Emode allows traders to support the balancing of the 4pool by earning slippage on assets in excess/lack of liquidity on the pool

Badger’s Citadel also announced plans for building out a pure 4pool-WBTC pool.

This is a notable move. To date, Curve’s TriCrypto pool is the primary gateway between Bitcoin and Tether, (and one can go from Tether to most stablecoins). A 4pool-wBTC pool could compete with TriCrypto and open up direct routing to more stablecoins.

We know Badger has a large stash of Convex it could wield here:

We also know Terra is purchasing large quantities of Bitcoin, so such a pool may fit nicely into their liquidity plans. FRAX has also announced plans to play in this pool.

The promise of lucrative bribes may be the most anticipated part of 4pool. The 4pool only exists on sidechains at the moment, yet its already seeing considerable bribe activity through Votium:

Now wait a second here… 4pool has been sitting there for a week, and nobody has aped in? Think of all the times a new pool launched, and the initial returns were some eye-popping 10,000kajillion% vAPY or something.

Is this alfa? Free money? Could you frontrun the plebs who are waiting for the frontend?
